Famous for its appearances in the Heartbeat TV show, this is the unique story of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway – not only the most popular steam line in Britain, but also the world. The line is renowned not only for its illustrious fleet but also the stunning moorland landscapes and fabulous changes of scenery with each season. The fascinating tale begins with the building of a horse-drawn railway from Whitby to Pickering by Rocket inventor George Stephenson.
Looking at how the line was saved by volunteers in the late Sixties, the story ends with the ground-breaking completion of a new dedicated platform for steam trains at Network Rail’s Whitby station in summer 2014.
